Sikkim University, Gangtok organized a seminar on ‘Social Responsibility of Higher Education’ at the university campus on September 26, 2017. Dr Rajesh Tandon, UNESCO Co-chair delivered a speech on ‘Social responsibilities of Universities’. He outlined the importance of universities engaging with the societies for helping address the challenges of contemporary times. He also spoke about the importance of re-orienting the higher education framework, its mission in particular, so that the higher education can be made more relevant and used as a tool for achieving sustainable development goals. He spoke on the importance of devising new curriculum, employing innovative, pedagogical tools, framing locally usable research, building knowledge in partnership and promoting service-learning.
