UNESCO is hosting an online meeting on the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, which will take place on Monday, 28 March 2022, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM CEST; 4:30 pm IST.
In November 2021, at the 41st session of the General Conference of UNESCO, 193 Member States unanimously adopted the first global standard-setting instrument on open science, the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science. The Recommendation was developed through a regionally balanced multistakeholder, inclusive and transparent consultation process.
As a part of this process, a broad, open-ended Open Science Partnership has been established, bringing together relevant and interested Open Science stakeholders and institutions from different regions. The Open Science Partners played a key role in providing inputs in and comments on the draft text of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science.
UNESCO Member States have expressed their desire to keep the process of implementation of the Recommendation as inclusive, transparent and consultative as the process leading to its development.
In this context, UNESCO is organizing an interactive online meeting for the Member States, members of the UNESCO Open Science Partnership and the broader open science community to provide information about the current status of the Recommendation, exchange on the implementation strategy and discuss the roles that different partners can play in the promotion and implementation of the Recommendation.
The meeting will be held online on the Zoom platform in English, French, and Spanish.
